Unit 7 Past perfect continuous, past perfect and past continuous

A. 과거완료 진행은 과거를 넘어 진행중일 때 쓰고, 과거 이전에 끝난 것에 쓰인다.

ex)

I'd been finishing some work in the garden when Lea arrived, so i didn't hear come in

->일이 아직 안 끝났다

I'd finished all the ironing so I started cleaning the windows.

일이 다 끝났다. 그래서 다른 일이 가능하다.

 

비슷한 의미면, 둘 다 쓸 수 있다.

I'd been working/I'd worked hard all year, so i fel that I deserved a holiday

 

 

B. 특정기간+ how many times에서는 과거완료를 쓴다. 과거완료 진행X

How many times had you met him before yesterday?

->답변도 과거 완료

 

C. 얼마나 그 활동이 지속됐는지에 관심이 없다면 그냥 과거진행을 쓰기도 한다.

ex)

When the merger was announced it became apparent that the two companies had been discussing the possibility since last year.

A firend told me about a conversation she'd recently overheard. Two women were discussing their holiday palns..

 

D. 상태동사에는 안 쓴다.

 

E. 문어체에 쓰지 구어체에는 잘 안쓴다.
